AAP (Advanced Academic Programs)

ALL students receive some exposure to AAP curriculum through the continuum of services (Levels I – IV).

Level III (part-time) and Level IV (full-time) AAP services for identified students begin in grade 3. Eligibility is based on testing and other screening tools.

Lane currently offers Level IV services for grades 3 and 4. Students in grades 5 and 6 may attend the nearby center.

 

Arrival

School hours are 9:20 a.m. to 4:05 p.m., Monday through Friday, for all grade levels, including kindergarten.

Doors open at 9:05. Please do not drop your child off before that time, as there is no adult supervision available until that time.

All students should arrive by 9:20 a.m., when the final bell rings. Those who arrive after that time will be marked TARDY.

 

Art

All students have art class once per week with one of our two full-time art teachers.

The art curriculum allows students to explore a variety of techniques and media, including paint, paper, and clay.

STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) lessons are incorporated into many art projects.

Birthdays

We understand your desire to celebrate your child’s birthday in a special way. Be assured that all students will be recognized and/or celebrated in class on their birthday.

Please note that to limit disruption to instruction, we cannot accommodate deliveries of flowers, balloons, or other gifts. Party invitations may only be distributed if all students receive one.

Parents may provide a birthday treat for their child’s class, following specific guidelines. If you wish to do so, please follow these guidelines:

• Notify your child’s teacher in advance so you can avoid foods that may be hazardous due to student allergies.
• All treats should be individually wrapped, pre-portioned finger foods that do not require adult assistance to distribute.
• Treats can only be distributed in the cafeteria at lunchtime. Please deliver any treats to the office, ideally by 9:20 a.m., so that we can take them to your child’s classroom.

Counselors

School counselors work with students and families to help ensure that students' educational and emotional needs are met. They provide crisis-intervention services and individual and small-group support to help students develop academic, social, and personal strengths and become responsible and productive citizens.

School counselors are not therapists. Their goal is to make sure children are able to access their school day on a social-emotional level.

Our counselors are Dr. Teresa Perry (left) and Katherine Corl. Dr. Perry supports grades ????, and Ms. Corl supports grades ????.

 

Curriculum

The FCPS curriculum offers students the chance to explore academics, athletics, the arts, and more. 

Grade-level curricula are based on Virginia state Standards of Learning (SOLs). However, the Fairfax curriculum is unique, and in many cases, exceeds the state standards.

Virginia is not a Common Core state.
