Music Programs
Lane offers an enhanced music curriculum to students in the upper grades
All students in all grade levels participate in the General Music program at Lane, with two class sessions per week. Once students reach the upper grades, they may choose to start studying instrumental music as well and/or join the Lane Chorus.
Band
- Students in fifth and sixth grade may opt to start learning to play a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument in our Band program. Classes meet one time per week and that session replaces one of the two General Music meetings. Students in Band are expected to still cover all of the General Music information as well, so some independent study well as regular practice on their chosen instrument at home is required.

Strings
- Students in fourth grade and above are eligible to start studying a stringed instrument (violin, viola, cello, or bass) in our Strings program. Classes meet one time per week and that session replaces one of the two General Music meetings. Students in Strings are expected to still cover all of the General Music information as well, so some independent study, as well as regular practice on their chosen instrument at home, is required.

Chorus
- Students in fifth and sixth grade may choose to participate in the Lane Chorus. This participation is in addition to their regular General Music curriculum.
- Each Chorus meets once a week to learn and practice new choral music with our General Music teachers Beverly Ogden, Jihanna Davis, and Melissa Snavely. The combined choruses perform at least one concert for parents and the community each year, as well as at selected school events. The Lane Chorus also participates in the Hayfield Pyramid Concert each winter, and sixth graders are eligible to audition for the FCPS All-County Chorus.
