Information for Military Families

Welcome Military Lions!

Lane is honored to have many military families in its community. It was one ofPurple Star logo the original Purple Star schools in FCPS, and recently reapplied for renewal. The Purple Star designation indicates that a school is military-friendly.

Our staff includes a special Military Family Life Counselor, LaMaya Middleton, who supports our military-connected students. Our military-connected Student Ambassadors help welcome new students to the school.

We celebrate our military families throughout the year. These events include:

  • A Veterans Day celebration in November, where current and former members of the military visit classrooms to share their experiences with students and staff, followed by a reception in their honor.
  • A monthlong celebration in April, Month of the Military Child, that includes a special breakfast, a slide show, a spirt week, chances for military-connected students to share their stories with classmates, and "Purple Up!" day.
  • "Lunch Bunches" and other events with other military-connected students to build community and share support.

FCPS offers a wide range of supports for military families and students. You can find more information the FCPS website's Military Families page.

If you have questions or need support, please contact Mrs. Middleton or our family liaison, Melanie Crosby Hardy.
